The education goes that All Hallows Eve is the Catholic celebration of everyone who has passed and so the day is dedicated to remembering the dead, the day after is then dedicated to worshipping all known saints on All Saints day – well, says the pedantic friend anyway…
…Halloween is an excellent holiday, one of my favourites, purely because for one night one can ignore all their inhibitions and dress up to look like a crazy (awesome) fool. Kinda makes me feel like I am 16 all over again. It also involves messy hands, creativity and almost always lots of laughs and possibly a few scared/shocked people.
This year I experimented with some white face paint, pink lipstick and lots of eye-liner to create a somewhat freaky looking Minnie mouse face, that coupled with my Mickey (face and ears also white face paint and eye-liner) we bounced around town with high pitched voices to “celebrate” the dead.
The face is easy, start with a base white face paint, draw the outlines (eyes, nose and face frame) with a thin brush and black face-paint (eye-liner brush is perfect for this), fill the blacks, pink and white in with a rounded brush and finally using eyeline draw on the lashes and refine the lines to make them smoother. Face-paint is such a good cheat costume :)
