I attended the PasarBella Farmers Market soft opening this Saturday for a spot of (walking) lunch.
[“Pasar” Malay translation meaning “market” – “Bella” Italian translation meaning “beautiful”]
The project masterminded by 23 year old Clovis Lim & Vincent Howe (35) soft launched this weekend (4th-5th May) at Turf City, aims to bring a touch of the western world market scene to Asia . The enchanting rustic space is filled with over 70 stalls selling fresh organic produce, prepared food, seafood, boutique wine, coffees, flowers, desserts and craft beers (plus cactus plants too if you fancy that sort of thing).
Coming from London, a city in abundance of renowned food and farmer markets – Borough Market, Whitecross Street & Brixton Farmers Market to name a few I had somewhat of a bias level of expectation. On first sight I found the place a little cramped with a slight evanescent feel however by the end of it (looping the place twice) fortuitously I was won over after munching a variety of goodies from a number of newly established joints to already highly acclaimed F&B businesses in Singapore (Oceans of Seafood, Huber’s Deli & The 1872 Clipper Tea Co.). The interior design and signage was strange as it illustrates a highly focused food place which was confusing when you are welcomed by an impressive balloon shop right at the entrance (its beautiful though with its vintage and old-age feel).
So it’s not exactly a weekly shop sort of venue but the experience is refreshing for Singapore and offers an exciting opportunity to explore new produce, food and outlets.
EVERYONE PAT YOUR BELLY :)
