Travel Diary: Places to go at Night in Ho Chi Minh City, Bars & Shisha

FANCY A DRINK? A SNACK? A NATTER?

Here’s the low down on the ground of all those hip places one must be seen socializing in Saigon…

Chill Bar: AB Tower, Saigon

In the evenings you can enjoy the best view of Saigon at this fancy exotic cocktail bar located high up in the AB tower.

Music & Atmosphere: The pop music is loud here so it’s in complete contrast to cocktails at Xu (see previous post) and the drinks are quite pricey but it is worth the view of the city’s sky line and is a good starting place for your night.

Velvet Club: Ho Huan Nghiep street, Saigon

Head to this trendy and busy club at the weekends for a harder night the compressed size of the place and it’s colourful decor gives it it’s exclusive feel. Hard nights were rare in Saigon as I’ve been told the the alcohol in Vietnam tends to be counterfeit, which I presume inevitably led to my rough headaches the next day.

Music: House/pop/Dance club

Atmosphere: Velvet is comparable to  a club you would find in Mayfair(London) with its booths, bottled serves attracting a mature, cool & composed crowd.

Lush Club: Ly Tu Trong street, Saigon

A busy, hot and sweaty club located just a little outside central. The venue boasts several rooms and has numerous bars so it’s quick and easy to get served.

Music: Head here for and odd hip hop/ trance vibe. I

Atmosphere: Crowd here are the young, free and single type and they drank hard, very hard.

Pascha Restaurant: Dong Da Street, Saigon

A lovely and hidden Turkish restaurant tucked away on Dong Da street with a very moreish cacik dip and many scrumptious teas. It has a beautifully decorated interior and the food is real good too, very authentic with fresh naan bread for dipping in the cacik. The shisha here is pretty decent and the place is hardly busy so a nicer environment compared to the nearby shisha bars, plus it opens until 3am.

Aisha Shisha Bar: Pasteur, Saigon

Another nice hidden shisha place called Aisha can be found near to Ben Thanh market, this small and low lit bar lounge has a good variety of shisha flavours and is a popular hangout for expats/foreigners living in HCMC.
